Opening Session: Introductory Remarks
Venue(Online): Universitas Andalas, Indonesia
On behalf of the ASEAN University Network and the AUN-QA, we are honoured to be here, virtually, at Universitas Andalas for the 178th AUN-QA Programme Assessment.
The Online/Remote Site Visit in the AUN-QA Programme Assessment is a new endeavour for Universitas Andalas and the AUN-QA. We thank you very much for joining us on this journey.
This is the second assessment for UNAND and it is the first online assessment for AUN-QA. We express our sincere appreciation to the university for trusting us, believing us in this very first online assessment which both sides have prepared very hard for. Moreover, we thank our truly international team of assessors from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam for putting in 5 days of work in this online site visit. Our contributions to the AUN-QA and your dedication push forward the delivery of quality assessment, quality development to all members of the AUN-QA family.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we can all agree that this year has been one of the most challenging since the AUN-QA began its journey in 2007. COVID-19 has resulted in postponements and cancellations of many AUN activities, including many assessments.
But the AUN-QA sees this online assessment as an opportunity. Not only as a chance to resume activities but to improve ourselves in the digital era, in the IT era. The AUN-QA has had
an ease in conducting numerous Council Meetings, for the assessors, and so on. And these activities will continue to a certain extent. We believe and we know that IT must become a
more effective tool for living in the current global crisis. The pandemic will not end within the year.
I was at Universitas Andalas for their first assessment in 2018. I saw your medical programme, your hospital and it was very impressive. The fact that you look towards the Indonesian - Accreditation Board for Engineering Education. And then towards AUN-QA and then again you look towards ABET, this is proof of your willingness, your desire, and your conviction to strike towards greater heights in quality assurance.
Once again the AUN-QA thanks the rector, administrative team, your QA officers, all academicians and non-academicians of Universitas Andalas for your trust and for operation with
the AUN-QA and we look forward to a constructive 5 days of online assessments.
